If you’re going to cook out on top of the fire (i.e. weiner roast) don’t use Cedar or Juniper because the resins that escape during the burning process can be poisonous. Pine would probably give the food a pine-ish flavor. I know you’re not supposed to burn any evergreen trees in the fireplace because the sap build-up can cause fires and perhaps be poisonous to breathe in a confined area.
