Some people think green, others think dark orange…What is it, and if possible, please provide an explanation.

    As long as you are spitting water into a flame, it should not change colour. The flame will only change colour if there is some chemical in the spit. Many people will soak rolled newspaper in certain chemicals to give colours to a fireplace.

    For example sulphur will burn yellow, barium will produce a light green flame; calcium turns a fire brick red; copper creates a blue-green tinge; Lead will turn the fire blue-white; use potassium for lilac color and sodium for bright orange. I am sure that there are others, that will produce colours, but I found these at the site below.
