    it is called fire brick, I am not sure where to buy it, but old stoves have it in and some washers to hold them down in the spin cycle. I used to junk the metal and found them there.

    If you want the fire pit to last, you should at least LINE it with firebrick and fire resistant mortar. It should be protected from water and freezing as well. Concrete blocks or common brick will crack and fall apart with time as they are heated and cooled.

    You need to use fire brick. Regular cement blocks can explode when heated to much.

    yes normal, cement cinder blocks will explode, id suggest going to home depot or a equivelent and ask a specialest , dont just use normal cement,

    I would at least make sure that whatever you use will not emit anything toxic when heated. Here’s a DIY article on building a fire pit and it refers to “Fire Bricks”.

    You can purchase fire brick and the proper premixed mortar to line your pit at any mason supply store or concrete plant.

    Nahhhh…..go Rustic (read “cheap”) dig a hole and line the top edge with regular fist sized rocks or bigger. Wood will burn anywhere if it’s dry.
