Easy the list and instrutions are in the library B&T section or by the stone masonry or ORTHO book at depot or lowes the contractors desk can advise you on list os tools and materials,,, and can probably give you a plan for free. ask about free delivery ,. to make the hol place a stake in the center of the area the tap a nail in to the top place a string on it measure out one half the diameter then stick a sharp shovel{spade}in the ground tie the string to the shaft of the shovel and circle the stake as you cut down lean down with you wieght on the blade and score and cut at least 4 inches then slide the shovel under the turf once thats gone cut lines in from the edges tha give you a natural base for concrete or block sand or agregate line the bottom good luck ps call friend buy beer and set out a spread and this can be easy

Start with calling your local fire department. Each city has regulations that need to be followed. Fire pits need to be below a certain size, to allow you to NOT need a fire permit to burn. Find out what your local regulations are before you start the hard work! Good Luck!
